||December 20, 2002 Fireball|
This bright meteor was seen by residents of Colorado at about 10:40 PM.
Only a few people reported this fireball, probably because of the late hour. This was probably not a terribly unusual event. Fireballs of this size occur several times a year. This was smaller than the fireballs seen over Colorado in recent months, although still very impressive for those lucky enough to have seen it.
I'm still waiting for information from several allsky cameras that may have captured this event. Based on the witness reports received so far, I estimate that the meteoroid was traveling from east to west, and slightly north to south, over south central Wyoming.
If you saw the fireball and have not made a report, please do so here.
Please check back for further information as it becomes available.
