Comet 46P/Wirtanen

46P/Wirtanen is a short period (5.4 years) comet that at perigee is very close to Earth's orbit. In 2018 it passed just 0.07 AU from the Earth (only about 30 times farther than the Moon), and became bright enough to be visible to the naked eye, and a very nice object in binoculars. This comet was the original target of the EAS's Rosetta mission, but a launch delay resulted in that spacecraft ultimately being sent to a different comet, 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.
